I have given myself the challenge of trying to create more order in my life. There are areas where I manage well and others where I fail dismally and cause me stress. I would love nothing more, than to have routines and habits that enable life to just flow better. I am hoping that by posting everyday the various areas that need I feel improvement, that it will keep me accountable and I will achieve my to do list for once in my life.
The Biggie- Part 2 ….Children’s Artwork.
Our home office is still a huge mess, but I am getting some order- even if it’s only in my mind for now!
I am starting to make progress in the various admin tasks that I need to do- but it all takes time.
But I will do it!
Realistically, I’m not sure how much I’m going to get done today, as my To Do List for today is already rather large. Nonetheless- I want to do it, so I’m splitting it up into a … step process.
1: Divide and conquer
The children’s artwork/ schoolwork is all sitting in a pile in the passage to the office. I’ve bought up 3 plastic boxes from our store room, one for each child. I will sort the work into the correct box.
2: Create a digital storage system.
Each child has a school folder and in here I’ve divided it into the years- Nursery, Reception, Year 1 etc. So far, I’ve been putting their photographs from the school (first day, school pictures, sports days, assemblies etc) into that folder. I am now planning to add a schoolwork folder for each year group.
3: Sort and Scan
Go through the box of schoolwork and choose the best, scan them and store them.
4: Upload onto a digital album
I’m planning to upload the scanned images onto PhotoBox and then create a photobook of the children’s time at school. I am thinking that I will create a book for each phase of schooling- with high school possibly only having one. (I don’t believe there will be too many photographs and examples of work from high school.)
5: Repeat Steps 2-4 for the next child:
Perserverance is key…. Perserverance is key…..Perserverance is key…..Perserverance is key!
6: Pick a date at the end of the next academic year:
Choose a day in the future by when you have completed steps 1-5 for the recently completed academic school year. I haven’t decided yet whether I want to do mine over the summer break, or when mine are back at school in September.
If all of this seems to be too much, why not outsource it?
My friend has turned her hobby of creating photo books, into a business. She will happily take on this overwhelming task for you. Have a look at her website.
